My brother (at right, holding Smiley Kylie) recently preached a sermon on Worshipping the Lord. His text was from Joshua 5 where Joshua meets the Lord God as Captain of the Host. The two signs of worship or respect were that Joshua bowed and later took off his shoes. I immediately thought of Thailand- a place where people bow AND take off their shoes. Asian people are generally very respectful people, something I admire about them. Intrigued, I thought about Americans-- do we have signs of respect? We don't bow or take off our shoes. I brought this up for discussion among my family. Standing when someone worthy of respect enters the room. Men taking off their hats indoors. I don't think Americans are a very respectful people. Remember the controversy over the girls who wore flip-flops to visit with President Bush? I really wish our country was more respectful.
Sound Off....
You know how there's that unwritten rule of fashion where women should not wear mini-skirts after age 35? [Whether or not women should wear them at all is another topic for discussion-- there are certainly under-35ers who really should look in the mirror before they go out and ask themselves, "Am I skinny enough to pull off this look?"] Anyhoo... I finally found an equivalent rule for men. Men over age 35 should not spike their hair. Look at the photograph to the left and dare to tell me I'm wrong. If you don't recognize the dude, it's Brian Grazer and he's 17 days older than my dad, making him 54. Yikes.
