Man Sets Off His Own Booby Trap
LANSING, Mich. - A man tired of burglars nearly blew off his hand when bomb-like devices he set around his house exploded in his presence instead, authorities said.
V.I., 50, ran to a neighbor's house Thursday with a bloody towel wrapped around his right hand.
"Apparently, he was trying to set booby traps to get the next guy who tried to break in," fire Lt. M.M. said.
V.I. had been the victim of several break-ins, she said.
The neighbor said the explosives were "like a pipe bomb. He accidentally triggered it, and it almost blew his hand off."
Police were investigating with the intent to pursue charges.
"Anything that goes `bang' is illegal," police Lt. Bruce F. said. "I can't think of any (legal) reason why someone would be making a bomb."

For the record, protecting your house with any sort of artificial mechanical device that could kill someone is illegal. Trusting the Lord is a much better way to keep your family and (as this guy showed!) yourself safe.

Poll Question
I'm so glad y'all voted for the new poll! I found the votes to be very interesting! If you haven't already, take a peak at the answers. Most of the choices I listed were things I either learned in the past, am learning, or want to learn in the future. So maybe the poll was a bit biased. But I still think it was a fun one!
Thanks for voting!

Heinous Shoes of the Week
Right, it's always a good plan to stick a piece of green cellophane on a pair of grayish granny shoes. Cuz that makes 'em prettier.
Bleck.

WITW: Crazy Article Of The Week
Link hopping brought me to this particular article. I read it through twice and I'm still speechless. I know this stuff is mentioned in a "wink-wink" sort of way, but in this article, the method is embraced, nay taught!
Would someone actually follow this advice? I don't know, but I also never thought I'd see an article like this. No surprise the author is not listed.
I should keep looking. Maybe there's another article explaining how to cope when you realize he was never actually interested in you, but you beat him down in a weak moment.
Just in case it's not clear, I did NOT write this article, nor do I support its premises. In fact, I think this advice would probably do more harm than good.

It Seems We Forgot
You know, I've been thinking about this today. I didn't realize it was September 11th until I was driving past a huge electronic sign at a local hotel. It gave me pause and made me a little sad to realize how little thought I had given this momentous date.
I didn't necessarily go out of my way to watch the news, but on the other hand, I didn't hear or see anything at all on the radio or TV or in the newspaper about the terrorist attacks that shocked our country (was it?!) six years ago.
I understand those who were most directly affected will never forget, but it seems, in general, our country has forgotten that day and its consequences, emotions, heroes, victims, and images. It's really unfortunate, too, because, although I wouldn't want the acts on that day repeated, I loved how our country came together.
I loved how everyone respected and wanted to follow the President. I loved how the Democrats and Republicans put aside their political hooey and sang God Bless America together. I loved how people cared and prayed for and rescued each other. I loved all the flags flying. I loved how people decided not to take their loved ones for granted. I loved how everyone wanted to fight back to protect our land. I loved that Americans loved America.
It seems all that has been lost by the return of apathy, political hooey, disrespect, and self-sufficiency.
It's sad.

If you haven't already, you really should read Lisa Beamer's book, Let's Roll. Be forewarned though, I believe I cried through most of it.

Fantasy Impractical Shoes
I've always wanted a pair of Wellies. They're so cute and fun and suggest that you're a chic, adventurous girl. There's just something about Wellies, wouldn't you agree? I mean, look:
So cute. I've never owned a pair of Wellies because I think I won't actually wear them. I always wonder if it would be a waste of money. After all, it doesn't rain THAT much here.
Do any of you own a pair? If so, do you wear them often?

Many Happy Returns of the Day
Well, it's close, but there's no doubt it's still September 4 (especially over there on the West Coast!) which is the day that C(m)B came into this world. Happy Birthday to you, C!!
C is my longest surviving law school friend. She's spunky and fun and adventurous and loyal. She inspires me to read more, to live life more fully, and to take better pictures. I've been privileged to be her friend.
Many happy returns of the day, C. And now, you're finally the same age as me again. *rolling eyes*
Ha! :)

I've Spoiled Y'all
There might be a distinct difference in the number of posts this week. See, I was working as a receptionist the last two weeks. Not only was I always sitting at the computer, I also didn't have much to do. That combination produced quite a blogstorm of posts, which IS good, but I hope y'all are not disappointed this week.
The receptionist is back from vacation, and I thought today would be my last day. Thankfully (!), the company wants to keep me on at least another week, but this week I'll be assisting in the human resources department. For me, it's great because I'd sure rather have something to do than just stare at the clock (= torture!) But the downside (for blogging) is that I'm not at a computer and don't really have any free time.
My word. All that just to say that I won't be posting much this week.
