I didn't necessarily go out of my way to watch the news, but on the other hand, I didn't hear or see anything at all on the radio or TV or in the newspaper about the terrorist attacks that shocked our country (was it?!) six years ago.
I understand those who were most directly affected will never forget, but it seems, in general, our country has forgotten that day and its consequences, emotions, heroes, victims, and images. It's really unfortunate, too, because, although I wouldn't want the acts on that day repeated, I loved how our country came together.
I loved how everyone respected and wanted to follow the President. I loved how the Democrats and Republicans put aside their political hooey and sang God Bless America together. I loved how people cared and prayed for and rescued each other. I loved all the flags flying. I loved how people decided not to take their loved ones for granted. I loved how everyone wanted to fight back to protect our land. I loved that Americans loved America.
It seems all that has been lost by the return of apathy, political hooey, disrespect, and self-sufficiency.
It's sad.
If you haven't already, you really should read Lisa Beamer's book, Let's Roll. Be forewarned though, I believe I cried through most of it.

Profound comments, Juls...and I agree. I loved all that about our country after the tragedy! You could just feel a sense of pride and comradery welling up in your spirit - the indomitable human spirit that digs deep when faced with crushing devastation. How soon we forget...
I agree- I totally forgot to fly our flag yesterday (though I had the best intentions). I read Let's Roll and couldn't put it down, but wept the ugly cry through almost all of it, too! A good (but draining) read.
I totally agree. It's sad that we can forget so easily.
I have read Lisa Beamer's book and I'm sure I cried a bucket!
