Fabulous Fallacies

[I found this book called Fabulous Fallacies in my dad's office. So I borrowed it and thought I'd share this with y'all. This entry made me feel so much better, except it doesn't change the fact that I can't see out of one of my eyes.]

Reading In Poor Light Will Not Damage Your Eyes.

It was a shock for me to discover this. As a child I logged numerous hours under the covers with a flashlight, reading while I was supposed to be asleep, and up until recently I blamed my imperfect vision on that transgression. I now find out that it ain't so. Reading in a bad light may cause muscular tension, eye fatigue, and headaches, but it cannot damage your vision any more than reading in good light, or "resting" your eyes periodically, can improve it. Because poor vision is the result generally of a structural defect, lighting has no effect on it. According to Dr. Edward S. Gifford, the same can be said about "excessive reading, small print, fine work at close range, poor illumination, fluorescent lighting, lack of glasses, glasses in need of adjustment, cheap sunglasses, or devotion to television."

I love it! I'm gonna have to find that book now...just to show it to my dad. He's always yelling at me (still) for reading in poor light. I just can't help it. I still have to read...if the light is good or not! :o)

"devotion to television..."

That was funny - far more politically correct than to call one a couch potato. LOL
